Wrist and elbow pain can occur for multiple reasons and any time of the year, however, springtime activities are known to irritate these areas. Activities such as golfing, playing tennis, gardening, and yardwork often lead to irritation. Repetitive motions and frequent typing on your phone or computer can also lead to wrist and elbow pain.
The good news is chiropractors are trained to balance your whole body, that includes your extremities. In the case of elbow and wrist pain, your neck and upper back should also be examined. Nerves from these areas control the strength and function of your arms. The joints and ligaments of both your wrists and elbows should be examined next in order to determine the cause of your symptoms.
Treatment is based on the patient and the cause of the problem, but can include spinal adjustments to relieve nerve pressure, adjustments to the joints in the elbow and wrist, myofascial release (muscle and ligament work) to the area of concern, and electrical therapy to decrease inflammation and pain. Stretches and exercises may also be given for patients to perform at home. Dr. Sarah gives a video demonstration of the stretches on both Instagram and Facebook.
